Ram Type BOP


The ram blowout preventer uses hydraulic pressure to push the well sealing components—two rams with rubber cores—from the left and right sides to the center of the wellbore to close the wellhead, so it is called the ram blowout preventer.


Ram blowout preventer function


1) When there is a drilling tool in the well, the annular space at the wellhead can be closed with a semi-sealed ram corresponding to the size of the drilling tool;
2) When there is no drilling tool in the well, the fully-sealed ram can fully seal the wellhead;
3) When the drilling tool in the well needs to be cut off and the wellhead is fully sealed, the shear ram can be used to cut the drilling tool in the well and fully seal the wellhead;
4) The ram of some ram blowout preventers is allowed to bear load and can be used to hang drilling tools;
5) There are side holes on the shell of the ram blowout preventer, which can be used to throttle and relieve pressure;
6) The ram blowout preventer can be used for long-term well closure;


Ram blowout preventer is mainly composed of shell, side door, oil cylinder, cylinder head, piston, piston rod, locking shaft, seals, ram and so on. Its working process is to use hydraulic pressure to push the piston to drive the ram to close or open, so as to close or open the wellhead, so as to achieve the purpose of sealing and opening the well.


The type of the ram BOP can be divided into four types: full sealing, semi sealing, variable diameter and shearing ram, which are used to realize well sealing under different conditions. The semi sealing ram can seal the corresponding drill pipe and tubing When there is no pipe in the well, the fully sealed ram can completely seal the wellhead, and the shear ram can cut off the drilling tool under special circumstances. In addition, the flange outlet on the side of the casing can be used for drilling fluid circulation and throttling and killing operations.


According to the number of rams, it can be divided into single ram BOP, double ram BOP, triple ram BOP;
According to the function of the ram, it can be divided into full-sealed ram BOP, semi-sealed ram BOP, shear ram BOP, variable ram BOP;
According to the locking method, it can be divided into manual locking ram BOP, hydraulic locking ram BOP;
According to the side door switch mode, it can be divided into rotary side door ram BOP, linear motion side door ram BOP;

The HBRS BOP Operating System is designed to provide fast and reliable shutoff around pipe or casing in all standard well control applications. The easy-to-operate system is a pressure actuated and features a hydraulically operated locking mechanism that keeps the plunger closed without continuous actuation pressure.


All components of the HBRS Ram BOP are precision machined and fully interchangeable with U-Types from major OEMs. The overall dimensions are the same, and stacks can be easily swapped out without any major rework to the rig.
